Event Description

The BDS Donor Coordination Group (BDCG) through its Secretariat – Micro Enterprises Support Programme Trust (MESPT) is organising the 8th annual Regional BDS Conference. The conference will be held between the 3rd and 7th of December, 2012 at Mombasa Continental Resort in Mombasa Kenya. This year’s conference will take the same structure and design as the previous year’s conference (First two days training and the remaining three days for the conference). For the training part of the BDS conference we will focus on three main thematic areas namely monitoring, evaluation and learning; Media and communication; and input and output supply markets. These thematic areas will be linked to the theme of the conference which is Private Sector Driven Value Chain Development. The thematic areas will allow participants to get into more detail on how to think about new areas of private sector driven value chain / market systems program development and how to apply this thinking directly to their work. The conference part which will be the next three days is focusing on six thematic that will build on the thematic areas focused during the first two days of training and this will be information sharing through case studies focusing on these themes. The conference themes are:-

  1. Working with Financial sector to develop innovative business services.
  2. Role of the public sector in creating a positive enabling environment for business development.
  3. Good business practice; governance, ethical investment, accountability.
  4. Business Development Services- What they are, where to get them, and how to support investment into them / their development.
  5. Developing inclusive business models that also benefit the youth, women and ASAL areas.
  6. Media and Communication in Value Chain development.
