Introduction

Core priority for Agri-ProFocus Kenya is finding means of making the accessibility of finance to farmers easier. Some of the main issues are access to, affordability of and information about financial products in the agricultural sector. Through networking and joint learning within Agri-ProFocus Kenya, we aim to foster and improve linkages between supply and demand.

Collaborating organisations

'Financial' organisations linked to the Agri-Hub Kenya are ICCO, SNV, SCOPEinsight, Agri-Finance, Oikocredit Kenya, Pawdep, IIRR, KIT, Rise Trust, CABI, K-rep (among others).

Activities

2011

  1. Improve knowledge of agri-finance through financial market place events for agri-businesses, financial service providers and intermediaries
  2. Awarding good practices both at producer and at financial product levels
  3. Developing a follow-up agenda to improve business economic capacity of producers and producer organizations

2010

  • In 2010, a joint study (led by Oikocredit) was made on supply and demand for financial products in various commodities and the results were discussed in a multi-stakeholder event.
  • Also, practical linkages were established between SCOPEinsight (previously 'Forefinance') and Agri-Hub Kenya members in a pilot on Credit Risk Assesment.
